Greenclose - our base in the Dales

Greenclose Cottage

Greenclose Cottage has been the headquarters of the Northern Pennine Club since the mid-fifties. It is a lovely stone-built farmhouse just outside the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It is situated not far from the village of Clapham about 1 mile off the A65 between Settle and Ingleton.

Guest clubs can usually book up to 25 bunks, however the first weekend of the month and on Bank holidays this is reduced to allow for members to stay.

The club does not usually consider that anyone under the age of 15 should stay at Greenclose. It is essential that anyone contemplating staying with children (i.e. those under 18) discuss this with the Cottage Bookings prior to booking.

Any caving and university clubs and guests wishing to stay must book in advance, you must wait for a reply from the Cottage Bookings before staying at the cottage.

Accommodation costs: Guests £10 per night, members £8 per night. Day access for use of toilets and showers £1.

Greenclose Facilities

Greenclose offers a large common room, a smaller snug room, a well-equipped kitchen, a very efficient drying room and store area, 2x toilets and 2x showers.

Upstairs there are four bedrooms. One has large alpine style bunks (sleeps 14) on two levels, two smaller rooms with individual bunks (8 bunks each) and one room for members only.

There is central heating throughout the Cottage with a large wood burner in the main common room and small electric fire in the snug.

Free Wifi is available throughout the downstairs of the Cottage.

Within the front extension there is a member only library, further drying and storage space.

There is also a Single Rope Technique (SRT) beam in the front extension. As SRT or ladder and lifeline are required to access most of the excellent caves in the Yorkshire Dales region. The training beam at Greenclose provides members and guests with a safe and controlled environment in which to practice these techniques.

The beam and eye bolts at Greenclose have been tested to 1.2 tonne normal working load. The condition of the training facility is that it is checked every 6 months by a competent club member. To use of this training facility the risk assessment will be shared with the booking information.

Outside there is plenty of parking space, a BBQ and the important rope washer.
