The Library

The Library

The Northern Pennine Club is the proud custodian of one of the most comprehensive caving libraries in the country, housed in a newly purpose-built extension at Green Close.

We hold complete runs of most caving journals, an impressive collection of caving books, and surveys for a wide selection of caves both in the UK and abroad. The crown of the NPC’s collection is the Jack Myers Archive: the complete diaries, photographs and notes of one of caving’s most celebrated and prolific writers and explorers.

The library collection is open for club members to browse and borrow, and to non-members by appointment.

Many of the NPC’s own publications, photographs and historical documents have been digitised and will shortly be made available online as part of an ongoing redesign of our digital archive. Following the move of the library into the new extension, the librarian team are in the process of re-cataloguing the collection and once complete this resource will also be available online.

The library can also be used as a meeting room for up to 10 people. If you would like access to the NPC library for research or anything else, please get in touch with the librarian using the contact form.
