What happened to the Meets List

On January 10th we didn't go down Juniper because Andy's car broke down in Bentham.

The above misfortune was made up for by Rae, Simon, Budge, Pat, Andy, Bill, Stan and Elsie having an excellent trip down Ireby on January 24th.

The Top Sink/Pippikin exchange meet on February 14th was something of a balls-up and was summarised in the log book thus: "meet leader Dave Barker failed to descend Top Sink with party A (John and Iain), told party B (Pippikin - Budge and Andy) that party A would probably go back out of Top Sink, told party C (support - Simon and Jean) that party B wanted to go out of Lancaster. Finally, Barker went down County with Glyn to derig Top Sink, party C rigged Lancaster and Link to fish out parties A and B". Other comments, although amusing, are unprintable in such a refined article.

The Tatham Wife meet on February 21st was well attended by Stan, Elsie, Audrey, Paul, Mick, Dean, Jean, Simon, Rebecca, Liz and Judith and a good trip was had by all.

Simon, Budge, Greg, John M., Rae, Jean, Bill, Stan, Ann, Roy, Margaret and Mike S. went down to the Mendips for the weekend 25th/26th April. Everyone went down G.B. cave on Saturday, drank rather a lot of beer and scrumpy on Saturday night and then were snowed in on Sunday.

Iain, Pat, John B., Andy N., John M., Andy W., Don and Budge had a very good trip down the big rift in Gingling on 16th May.

Simpson's/Swinsto exchange on July 18th by John M., Roger (M.C.G.), Bill (M.C.G.), Roger, Wiggy, Budge and Mike S. was an excellent trip with only the slight complication of forgetting about the existence of the last pitch in Swinsto, resulting in it being climbed on a motley assortment of old slings and knicker elastic.

The Lost Johns' meet on August 15th was transferred to Deaths Head for ladder practice due to the late start (closing time at the Marton's). Bill, Greg, Bill (M.C.G.) were "advisory surface team" and Simon H., Budge, Stuart and Pete went down to the bottom.

The Darnbrook meet didn't come off because the meet leader (Tiger) has given up caving for a sport that is much more fun apart from still getting sore knees.

The Car Pot trip didn't happen because nobody turned up until it was far too late to do anything.

The South Wales weekend was well attended, but for diplomatic reasons we won't talk about it.

Simon H., John M., Glyn, Budge and Chris Gibb had an excellent trip to the bottom of Pen-y-ghent on November 14th.

Apart from the "official" trips that did or didn't come off in 1981, many more trips were done throughout the year including several camping meets in the Lakes and one in Skye.
