I have selected a few memorable paragraphs from club publications of twenty-five years ago; the club seems to have changed over the years!
"The annual club dinner has been arranged to take place at the Helwith Bridge Hotel. Accommodation is very limited and members wishing to stay overnight are requested to make their own arrangements. Please mention NPC when applying for accommodation."
"At the July G.M. it was decided to set aside two weekends for the construction of steel wire ladder. Materials will be available shortly and volunteers and required to prepare the various ladder parts...... samples for practice splicing supplied on request."
"Underground Adventure (Dalesman 15/-). Members who wish to obtain copies of this book may obtain same from authors, autographed if desired. We are not supposed to sell below retail price, but as we do not wish to make a profit from sales to members, we will donate 2/- to the club for each copy sold to a member, and also stand postage."
Cottage Notice: (this is on the Crow's Nest notice board in full). Extract: In the interest of hygiene will members please bring their own blankets or sleeping-bags and see that their guests do likewise. Will members also bring sufficient food for the week-end, apart from bread and potatoes."
"New Members - The following have applied for membership of the N.P.C.
and will be accepted on probation unless any objections are received by
September 30th. 1. J.A.Baron 2. W. Cousins 3. R.D. Leakey (ex B.S.A.).
For the help of members who have not been active for a while, the committee
thinks that Leakey would now make a good member, being more moderate in his
pot-holing and more regular in his drinking."
